At some point, almost everyone requires junk removal services. In some cases, it’s to lighten the load for a long-distance move or to cut down your belongings to fit into a smaller home. Or it might involve decluttering a home for seniors who are ready to sell the home where they raised a family.

Whatever the case, it makes sense to hire professionals for your junk removal rather than making multiple trips to the landfill yourself. Junk removal services have the vehicles, equipment, and people needed to remove junk efficiently and safely. You’ll save yourself a lot of time, landfill fees, and potential injuries by turning the job over to professionals.

For most people, the biggest hurdle to hiring a junk removal service is simply knowing how to go about it. The following looks at some tips to make for stress-free junk removal.

Making Your Junk Removal Stress-Free

Once you know how to do it, working with professionals to get your junk removed is an easy, straightforward process. However, many people fail to keep these ideas in mind when they hire a junk removal service. Remembering them can make “junk removal day” a stress-free day.

Determine the Services You Need

There are many different types of junk removal services. The two main categories are residential and commercial junk removal services, but there are subsets within each. For example, residential junk removal services can include:

  • Appliance Removal
  • furniture removal
  • Attic Cleanouts
  • Estate Cleanouts
  • GarageCleanouts
  • Senior Downsizing

Commercial services can involve many different types of businesses, including construction companies, property management firms, retail stores, and more.

The bottom line: Determine what items you need to remove before looking for a junk removal service because the cost of the service will depend on the amount and weight of the junk that needs hauling.

Hire Professionals

Take the time to search for a junk removal company that is legitimate and trustworthy. There are plenty of scam companies out there that will charge you more than advertised or not show up time (or at all). It’s especially an issue as the number of people moving increases.
Make sure to get a reliable junk removal service that provides all the services you need. In addition to inquiring about rates and availability, people also should ask junk haulers about how they will haul the junk and the kind of space they need for their vehicle.

Schedule During a Slow Time

It’s best to schedule junk removal on a weekday in the morning or early to mid-afternoon when there’s less traffic on your street or in your apartment community. That allows the haulers to position the truck better. Also, check the weather in advance – you don’t want your junk removal disrupted by a storm.

Separate the Junk

Before the junk haulers arrive, separate all the junk that needs to be removed. Either place the items in a single space or mark them so the haulers can see them clearly. In some cases, you might want to make a detailed list of every item. If you plan to donate items, place them in a separate area of their own.

Clear The Space Needed

When a junk removal service arrives at your home or business, they will get the job done much faster if the space has been prepped in a way that makes it as convenient as possible to do their job. In addition to having the junk marked or separated, you should also clear a wide pathway to the junk and move vehicles out of the way. Also, let the junk removal service know in advance if the item is big or hard to get to, such as a large chest of drawers or entertainment center in an upstairs bedroom.

Know What They Won’t Take

Professional junk removers will have information on their website about what they take, but it’s important to reach out and talk to them about the details of your move. Some things they cannot take, such as certain chemicals, opened cans of paint, tires, and anything containing asbestos. Check ahead so you’re clear on what they will haul away.

Stress-free junk removal can make your relocation, renovations or home decluttering go that much easier. By planning ahead and choosing a trustworthy junk hauler, getting junk removed should become the easiest part of your project.

Spring Cleaning

Spring cleaning is a time-honored custom that’s still around because it provides an annual reason to give your house a thorough cleaning. Most trace back the ritual of spring cleaning to the days when people kept their houses warm in the winter using fire and kerosene that left soot and grime everywhere. Spring became the time to start fresh.

Spring provides warmer weather and longer days, making it the perfect time to tackle deep cleaning. It allows people to open windows and let in the fresh air. Even in a time when central heat and air have reached every corner of the country, spring still marks the best time to roll up your sleeves and do some cleaning.

But where to start? The following offers some ideas on how to plan for successful spring cleaning, as well as some tips that can help you out as you go. You can also check out our spring cleaning checklist where tasks are broken down by each room you clean.

Tips for Stress-Free Spring Cleaning

You can put the following tips to use as you plan for spring cleaning. While every house is different, these general tips work in most situations. It might seem like a lot of work, but keep in mind that the end goal is for you to enjoy a clean, fresh-looking home as well as the peace of mind that comes from having your home clean and in order.

When to Start Spring Cleaning

Winter lasts longer the farther north you go. That means spring cleaning might start much later in Maine than it does in North Carolina. Really, the only rule for spring cleaning is to do it when you can set aside most of a weekend to devote to cleaning.

How to Plan Spring Cleaning

There are doubtlessly many ways to approach spring cleaning, but two methods give you the opportunity to plan. The first is a room-by-room plan. The other is a day-by-day plan that lasts for a longer period of time. The second choice is better if you only have a little bit of time to do spring cleaning every day.

The Room by Room Plan

List every room in the house and set aside time to tackle each. Some will take only hours, others longer. By dividing your spring cleaning into a room-by-room list of tasks, it makes it easier to accomplish.

A Day-by-Day Plan

For those with limited time each day, it’s smart to spread your spring cleaning out over several weeks (some follow a 30-day plan). Again, there’s no “set in stone” way to do this. Make a schedule that works for you, otherwise, spring cleaning will never get done.

Things To Do Before Cleaning Starts

Before you begin the cleaning process, get together three boxes or storage bins. You will use these throughout the cleaning process. One is for donations. The second is to place items that need repairing. The third is for random items you find as you clean that you don’t want to throw away but want to wait to deal with later (one sock or earring, for example).

It’s also helpful to go through your clothing and store away the sweaters, coats, gloves, and other items you won’t need in the warm months.

Tips to Make Spring Cleaning Easier

Once you’ve got your plan of what you will clean and when you will clean it, there are a few tips that will make it easier once the cleaning process starts.

Make It a Team Effort

If you live alone, you’re on your own. But if others live in the household, then everyone should pitch in. By sharing the tasks with every household member, cleaning goes by much faster.

Attack the Clutter First

Before starting on a specific room – or on the first day of your day-by-day plan – focus on the clutter. It’s an easy first step to take a garbage bag and simply go through each room of the house, tossing clutter that has accumulated during the winter. This will eliminate that first layer of the job quickly. What you can’t throw away, organize as neatly as possible.

Work From Top to Bottom

In every room, you will want to start with the ceiling fan and clean cobwebs out of the corners, then work your way down to the furniture and then, finally, the floor. This will keep you from having to dust or clean an area twice.

Windows and Walls

Windows and walls get dirty, too. In the case of windows, they can become smudgy and make a room much less attractive. Make sure these areas get added to your spring cleaning plans. Sometimes all it takes is a damp towel to wipe down the walls and the window blinds. Cleaning the windows themselves is easier if you take out the screens and clean them.

Replace HVAC Filter

Really, you should replace filters regularly. But if you’ve been remiss in attending to this task, now’s the time to take out the old, dusty filter and replace it with a clean one. This will improve the efficiency of your system and cut down on your energy bill.

Don’t Forget the Outside

While it’s not a room, the area outside your house also deserves some spring cleaning attention. Now’s the time to clean the grill and the patio furniture in preparation for the warm spring and summer months to come.

Create a Maintenance Plan

If you struggle with cleaning regularly, spring cleaning also offers an opportunity to establish new cleaning habits for the coming year. As you do spring cleaning, figure out a plan to maintain the cleanliness going forward, even if you just spend 10-15 minutes a day cleaning.

These spring cleaning tips for planning and cleaning can help spring cleaning go a bit easier in your home. While it’s a chore, it’s a time-honored one that you’ll be glad you did once you are enjoying your clean home.

Most people think of junk removal services in connection with making a move. But junk removal also can provide a huge help if you want to declutter your home for renovations or just get rid of stuff you don’t need.

A professional junk removal service can manage a wide variety of jobs, making life easier for those who don’t have other means to remove junk. And even if you do have a truck that can carry junk, you still have to load the junk into the truck and haul it to a landfill where you will pay a fee. Why do all that if you don’t have to?

Get Some Help!

You can hire a junk removal company for many reasons but the bottom line is usually the same, many hands make light work. It’s especially key if you’re a senior who wants to move to a new place for retirement and want to declutter your home because it’s filled up with items over decades. Junk removal helps make that transition much easier when the time comes

But many people also want professional help when they decide to declutter their home and prevent it from filling up with stuff they don’t need. The most infamous example is an attic stuffed with items stored out of sight for many years. But there are other signs it’s time to hire a company to remove junk and debris, including the following.

  • Space is going unused in the home because it’s filled with clutter
  • The garage no longer fits the family cars
  • You’ve decided to renovate an area of your home
  • Junk removal as part of an estate cleanout
  • A storage unit needs to get cleaned out
  • Removal of construction debris

Get Rid of Heavy Items

A professional junk removal company can manage big items as well as all the small stuff that accumulates over the years. Those big items can include appliances (such as old washers, dryers, and refrigerators) as well as heavy furniture (such as a chest of drawers, entertainment center, or dining room set).

Available for Small and Big Jobs

The need to clean up and declutter our spaces is not limited to our homes. Many businesses take advantage of professional help to remove unwanted items and prepare various spaces for transformation.  If you have an office or warehouse space, the need to declutter comes with the territory. A junk removal service can provide the right amount of help needed to get things done quickly.  Companies hire junk removal companies to handle tasks like:

  • Removing debris from construction sites
  • Taking out old equipment at professional organizations
  • Cleaning up property owned by property management firms
  • Preparing properties for development for real estate development companies
  • Decluttering boxes, paper, and other items at retail stores
  • Removing clutter from homes in senior living communities
  • Clearing out storage units
  • As part of a business move to a new location

Junk Removal as Part of Total Relocation Solutions
